I have a new 2014 KTM 500 XCW, same issue with metal chips/flakes. I immediately called. dealer and spoke with service manager. He says this is totally normal with this particular bike and is why they say to change oil often and clean all screens including magnetic plug. Metal chips will lesson with oil changes.
Posted June 14, 2018. Upside down forks in general have poor seal life. On Japanese forks, has a little fine wiper on the inside diameter of the seal, the fine ridge begins to spider web and weeping will occur, a cleaning tool wont fix that. Generally I replace seals once I see a sustained Heavier looking film.
